YOGA, TAUGHT SLOWLY
Training and Mentoring for Yoga Teachers
Training for Teachers For yoga teachers and committed practitioners, I teach the nervous system, yin and restorative practice, grounded in research-based anatomy, yoga philosophy and therapeutic frameworks.
A monthly mentorship for working teachers is in the making and will open in 2027. If that is something you would like to join, join the list, and you will hear first.
Welcome
I am Gem Maryan, a yoga teacher (E-RYT 500 since 2011) and educator in Royal Deeside. I teach the nervous system and the practice with care, and I write about the longer relationship between practice and life. The best place to begin is the free library.

Training & Mentoring for Teachers
For yoga teachers and committed practitioners, I offer accredited short courses and 50-hour continuing education trainings in Yin, nervous system awareness, and restorative practice. Each training integrates research-based anatomy, yoga philosophy and therapeutic frameworks.
Many teachers who train with me continue with the monthly mentorship, a small ongoing group for working teachers who want a steady space to keep learning together.

Yoga therapy & Case Studies
I’m currently training as a yoga therapist (C-IAYT) completing a 875-hours Yoga Therapy Diploma. I am offering case study sessions as part of my supervised clinical practice. These sessions are ideal if you’re managing chronic pain, fatigue, stress or emotional burnout.
Each session uses the tools of yoga and blends movement, breath and somatic inquiry to meet your body where it is.

Hands-on Therapeutic Bodywork
The treatments I offer combine Ayurvedic Yoga Massage and deep tissue work with assisted yoga stretches to release tension, improve circulation and restore balance in the body. Treatments are tailored to your needs and can support recovering from stress, fatigue or physical strain/injury.
Offered in-person in Aboyne and as a one off session or 3-session therapeutic series.

The training was not just about imparting knowledge but also great preparation for starting to teach Yin confidently. Great ideas about how to structure classes – very pragmatic training, encouraging you to apply your knowledge in a practical way.

Having completed my Yin Yoga training with Gem at the Deeside Yoga Institute, I can honestly say it was both thought-provoking and transformed my yoga experience. This experience wasn’t just about learning how to teach Yin Yoga. It was about unlearning old patterns, creating space within, and reconnecting with a deeper, more authentic version of myself. I’m leaving this journey feeling far more knowledgeable, more grounded, and more open as a Yin Yoga teacher. If you feel even the smallest pull toward Yin, trust it. There’s something truly powerful waiting for you during this training.

Gem’s yin yoga teacher training exceeded my expectations. It covered everything I needed to know to begin sharing yin yoga to others. Gem has so much insight and wisdom and delivers this authentically with passion and precision. There was the perfect balance of yin practice, theory and teaching/planning classes. She welcomed the group into her warm and comfortable home and cooked DELICIOUS lunches each day! This course has given me the tools and resources to confidently start teaching yin yoga. Thanks Gem!
